Lifestyle Blog

4 weeks left till my due date and I can't wait, if you read my last blog post about my pregnancy symptoms you will know that I have been through it, but recently I have two more symptoms to add to the list! Lightning crotch and lower belly pain.

Lightning Crotch is a sharp pain down there, its a massive shooting pain in my pelvic area, it can be caused by pressure of babies head on the cervix or the baby putting pressure on nerve endings around the pelvis. When I first looked it up it said that its the baby moving to the birth canal and I worried that the baby was on the way... however it also said this can occur weeks before you actually go into labour and then I felt a little bit better.Lower belly pain has been the worst, I am not actually able to walk or stand for more than a minute without getting a crippling pain in the lower belly, so for the last week I have been trying to take it easy and sit down and move as little as possible. I spoke to the midwife yesterday and all is ok, so no worries just taking it extremely easy for the next 4 weeks. Anyway enough of my complaining about being pregnant lets talk about how I am getting ready for baby number 2.

Emptying the Loft

I never planned on having another baby but I kept everything that Lilly had when she was a baby just because I could not bare to part with it, well good job I didn't get rid of it all. A few weeks ago I went into the loft and got everything down, I got the Play mat (Similar)Bouncer (Similar)Changing Table (Similar)Baby BathSnug SeatNext to Me Crib down along with some Toys, Sleep-suits, bodysuits, sleep bags and all her little outfits from 0 to 3 months.

What I have bought

Due to having kept so much there was not a lot of stuff that I had to buy but I had few bits that I needed to get which was wrong out with Lilly, I got a new Changing MatMuslin ClothsHealth Care KitBaby Pod, and Baby Monitor along with some bodysuits and a new sleep bag for a small baby, as Lilly only had blankets when she was newborn and looking back I wish I had got her a sleep bag.

Hospital Bag

Some may say a little bit early, but I wanted to get everything ready in good time, so my hospital bag is packed. My plan is to have a water birth, but you never know what will happen so I have packed incase I don't get my water birth like last time.

For Me

Bikini and Oversized Top for water Birth, I wanted a water birth with Lilly, but things did not go to plan so I have also packed a Lilac Oversized t-shirt Dress and Blue oversized T-shirt dress  incase I have to be moved to a bed, I was not prepared for this with Lilly and was naked while giving birth, not that I cared at the time but I wanted to be prepared this time. Night shirt to wear after having the baby, this one is oversized and also buttons up so easier for breast feeding. Dressing Gown and Slippers to wear around the hospital once had baby. Clothes for Home, I have some Maternity Leggings and a oversized Top. Disposable Underwear and maternity pads, most lists advise to take loads of knickers and maternity pads, but I prefer to just have disposable underwear and maternity pads for extra comfort. Toiletries bag which has Shampoo, shower gel, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, flannel, razor, comb, hair brush, and hair ties and Lipbalm. Nursing Bra and breast pads for feeding the baby. Peri Bottle for keeping things clean down there and also helps when you use warm water when you have a wee after having a baby. Snacks and Drinks for me and Richard, Chocolate bars and Isotonic drinks to keep my energy levels up. Camera, Phone and chargers and money is what I will pack on the day of.

For Baby

Newborn Bodysuits and Sleep-suits and up to a Month Bodysuits and Sleep-suits, I taken new born and up to a month as Lilly was in up to a month when she was born as the newborn was too short for her. Size 0 nappies and 1 Nappies incase the baby is too big for size 0. Baby Wipes, I went for water wipes to start with. A Blanket, baby already got knitted a blanket from my Auntie Debra so this is what she will be coming home with. Muslin Cloths, just taking 3 or the new ones that I bought. Cardigan and Outfit for Home.

Baby Room

Well unfortunately the baby does not have a room yet, we have planning permission for the extension and hopefully work will be underway within the next few months. The baby is in the room with me for the first 6 months anyway, but it is very sad that the baby does not have a room that I can decorate and put all her stuff in one place, but it is what it is. So in that respect I am not ready at all, but the baby will be spread over my room and dressing room for a while until the extension is done.

Lilly

I truly believe Lilly is going to be a brilliant big sister, she loves her dolls and is so soft and gentle with them (most of the time). She knows that baby sister is in my belly and all the toys and new things around the house are for baby sister, but when a new baby is actually here, I have no idea what she is gonna be like. I have bought her a little present from baby sister and gonna get her a few more little bits. The most important thing that I have to do is keep her as involved as possible and not to make her feel left out, I know its gonna be better when Richard is here as there will be two of us, so when I am with baby Richard can be with Lilly and visa versa, but when he goes back to work it will just be me, Lilly and the baby and up till then it has just been me and Lilly and she has had all my attention, I can do this!!

I am ready to go, well as ready as I can be. I have not been able to do much nesting due to the new pains that I have, hoping that will ease up and I can get some things tidy and sorted ready for when baby is here. In all honestly I do not feel mentally prepared because like I said to Richard it don't actually feel like I am having a baby in 4 weeks time, but I am!!

Autumn and Winter makes me so happy and one of the main reasons are the clothes! I have not bought clothes for nearly 9 months and I can't wait to buy a few things to update my wardrobe, here are some things that I would love to add to my Autumn/winter wardrobe.

This outfit is first as its one that I really want, and if I don't get anything else listed below and just these 4 things I will be happy! The Zara High Rise Straight Jeans - £27.99 will be such an easy item to dress up and down and along with the Zara Seamless Top with Vents - £17.99 which I think is so unique with the vents on the sleeves.  Converse Platfrom Trainers - £70.00 are so versatile I think will look great with an all black outfit and the Zara Khaki Quilted Jacket - £59.95.

All Black outfit, sounds about right for me! The Zara Satin Shirt - £19.99 with the Topshop Leather Look Leggings - £20.00 and Missguided Black Faux Leather Biker Jacket - £55.00 will be a nice texture with all the leather look and then some chunky boots like the ASOS Black Boots - £30.00.

The Famous Zara bodysuits, I love the colour of the Zara Halter neck Purple Bodysuit - £14.99 and the Zara Halter Neck Dark Red Bodysuit - £14.99 will add a hint of colour to an all black outfit with the Topshop Dad XL Denim Jacket - £35.99.

As soon as I saw these Marks and Spencer Chunky Chelsea Boots - £45.00 I thought that looked great and makes change from all my black boots and I thought they were a steal at £45.00.

I have recently bought this blazer in black and it is lovely, so nice that I would defiantly consider getting it in brown, the Topshop Oversized Crepe Blazer - £55.00 can be dressed up for down, I used to think that blazers were only for when your getting dressed up , but I think they are something you can wear everyday, with these Zara - Seamless Leggings - £17.99 and the Zara Knit Crop Top - £11.99 with some trainers will look great.

Cosy nights in the autumn and winter are a must and why not make yourself feel good about staying in with these lovely Bluebella Claudia Satin Pyjama Set - £40.00 and MissGuided Co-Ord Set - £22.00.

Years ago River Island was my shop of choice, it was the only place I would spend my money and my whole wardrobe was full of it. Then I got introduced to ASOS and then Topshop and then Zara and slowly all my clothes that I had from River Island migrated out of my wardrobe.

However I found myself the other day looking on River Island website, and I am not gonna lie, I struggled to find anything, I come across a RI Monogramed belted puffer jacket and that reminded exactly why I stopped shopping in River Island (Sorry RI)!

But I am ready for a challenge and when I had a really good look I did come across a few pieces that I would not mind adding to my Autumn Winter Wardrobe.

Cream Ribbed Roll Neck Jumper - £25.00

I love a roll neck jumper in the Autumn and Winter, it can be paired with jeans, trousers, skirts and layered up with jackets and t-shirts, I like this one as the neck is not too bulky, as that always makes me face look massive. You can get this one in 3 other colours.

Beige cable knit Hooded Cardigan - £45.00

This is bang on my style, casual and cosy and what more could you want in the Winter, the colour is versatile so you can just throw it over anything and it will go and it looks so comfy and just perfect for them chilly days in the house.

Brown Split front flared trousers - £28.00

I love Flares, I am so glad that these have made a massive comeback, Brown is my colour of choice now, I would wear these with some boots, but more likely a pair of trainers and a baggy tee.

Pink Tie dye Ruched Top - £24.00

This is not normally somethings that I would go for, but I just found myself having a closer look at this and I think its really pretty and just a nice top to pair with some jeans, I would pair with some Mom jeans and trainers.

First of all I would like to say to anyone that still shops in River Island, I apologise for what I am about to say, it is just my opinion and each to their own!

I need to give River Island the benefit of the doubt as it is only August and they may not have all the AW21 items online, but I thought I would find more than 4 things to add to my imaginary basket! Will I buy these items when I can fit into them, yeah properly, will I make River Island one of my go to shops again, maybe if they dropped putting RI on everything and I was looking for something that I would have bought 10 years ago!!

Sorry, not Sorry!

Growing a baby sounds magical, and it is, its Thursday and I have just made a sandwich and created part of a arm! A woman body is just amazing, it can grow a human and still get on with every day life and in some circumstances still look after another little human.

However my reality is much much different, if there is a pregnancy symptom to be had, I will be having it, I blame my age, but there are amazing woman having babies way into their 50's so, maybe I am just one of the unlucky few.

Now don't get my wrong I am extremely thankful that I am pregnant and can't wait for this little baby to be born, and I love the idea of giving birth, my first labour was a little traumatic but it was such an amazing experience and the feels it gave me, I can't wait to see what this time brings, but the great thing about birth for me is the pregnancy is over.

6 weeks left!!!

Sickness

Morning, Noon and Night!!  At the beginning was when it was at its worse and then it started to ease up a little and now its back with a bang! Hyperemesis Gravidarum was something that I was diagnosed with in my first pregnancy and I only got a month and a half break from it and was admitted to hospital once with severe dehydration, due to the fact that I could not keep anything down. This time round the sickness did not last along but its was a lot worse and had to be admitted to hospital 3 times with severe dehydration within 4 weeks. The only way I could get on top of it was just to eat and drink little and often and when I say little I mean a bite of a biscuit and a sip of a drink. Ginger biscuits did not work for me and thankfully it did ease up after a couple of months, unfortunately it is now back and keeping food down is getting a lot harder.

Phlegm

This is properly one of the most irritating symptoms that I experience and most disgusting, so when pregnant your body produces excess amounts of mucus which can clog the sinus and drain down the throat, which is exactly what I am experiencing. All day long I have to cough up mucus and sometimes coughing this up can cause me to be sick. This is worst in the morning as its has been building up all night.  I have not found a way to get on top of it, I was prescribed a sinus spray that done nothing and I got myself a netti-pot which helps drain the sinuses, however again did nothing, just got to hope that it goes away once baby is here.

Back pain

A very common symptom in pregnancy as your body is changing to make room for baby and prepare for labour. I find it hard to get up and down and walking too far as well as lifting Lilly up, but I have been able to ease it with a little bit of stretching and a hot water bottle.

Heartburn

This is worst in the afternoon and night, even though not as bad as it was when I had Lilly, but still unbearable, sometimes so bad that it takes my breath away, Luckily I spoke to doctor and was prescribed some Acidex and that helps a lot.

Constipation

Terrible at the beginning and eased up a little but is back now, luckily when I was in hospital on one of my admissions I had this problem and was given something that was safe to take while pregnant, as a lot of over the counter medication you can not take while pregnant. 3 out of 4 pregnant women get constipated in pregnancy and I would be one of them! Hormones in  pregnancy means your muscles relax including the intestines moving slower which is why it happens

Frequent Urination

One night I had to go to the toilet and then I swear less than 5 minutes later I needed to go again and have a another full on big wee. Out of all the symptoms this one is not a big deal, just slightly annoying in the middle of the night. I have always wondered why this happens though and its to do with the extra blood passing in your body and the fact that the baby is growing and putting pressure on your bladder.

Insomnia

This one has been tricky for me, as I have a 2 and a half year old that sometimes like to get up in the night for no reason and sometime likes to get up at 4.30 in the morning to watch cocomelon. The worst night was when I could not get to sleep until about 4.15 in the morning and 45 minutes later I had terrible cramp in my leg and then Lilly got up! 4 out of 7 nights I have a problem with sleeping, wether it is going to bed for a bit and waking up and not being able to get back to sleep or not able to actually get to sleep until about 2 in the morning. I found that no phone before bed sometimes helps or a nice hot bath, but that dont always help. I think its just preparing you for them night feeds.

Tired

Insomnia obviously makes me feel tired throughout the day, but its just everything makes me tired, second trimester I had days when I would have loads of energy, but Im right back there now with feeling exhausted, being sick and not being able to keep anything down means that I have no energy and when I can get some rest I will try.

Why I love being pregnant

Now I have listed all these bad things about being pregnant and in all honesty I am not a fan of being pregnant, but I am lucky that I have a baby on the way and there are some things I love about being pregnant..... not many but I love when the baby kicks and when I get to see the baby on the scans and of cause the excitement of labour and finally having the baby here!
